Aventis Diversified Commodity Fund employs a fundamental, discretionary strategy focused on trading physical commodity futures & options on futures. The trading edge is achieved through rigorous fundamental research and proprietary technical models overlaid with strict risk management policies on a position, sector, and portfolio basis. Approximately 40-50% of the strategy is spread based (relative value) including calendar, inter-market, inter-commodity and option spreads; 40-50% of the strategy is directional in nature utilizing futures, spreads, and options; and 5%-10% of the strategy is involved in short term trading.

Aventis is a diversified commodity manager trading highly liquid commodity futures and options on futures. Aventis employs a fundamental, discretionary strategy focused on opportunistically trading in the Energy, Grain, Softs, Meat and Metal sectors. Aventis was founded in 2005 by Paul Kim (CEO/Head Trader) who has over 30 years of experience in the commercial and cash commodity business - first with Cargill as a cash grain trader for 7 years, then as an independent floor trader on the CBOT for 11 years, and as an investment manager since 2001. Mr. Kim is a seasoned trader and is able to execute on fundamental biases as well as incorporating technical analysis using many different strategies.
The Aventis Edge is achieved through a team of commodity market specialists with over 75 years of combined experience and success analyzing and trading in the cash and futures markets. This experience drives a rigorous research process that not only provides an understanding of the fundamental supply and demand dynamics of the markets it trades, but also how market psychology and positioning will affect pricing behavior. The Aventis Edge also includes the use of proprietary technical indicators in analyzing markets to assist in executing the trading strategy; and its Edge is further demonstrated by its expertise in trade application and the ability to profit on trade ideas using futures, spreads and option strategies. Manager Info

Mr. Kim was born in Seoul, South Korea. As a child, in 1966, he immigrated to the United States with his family, settling in St. Paul, Minnesota. After graduating from Northwestern University with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mr. Kim joined Cargill Inc., a global commodity trading firm.
During his tenure at Cargill from 1982-1989, he held various positions: (1) from 1982-1984 Mr. Kim held a domestic trading position and gathered information from U.S. Farmers and grain elevators and also managed a domestic rail position. (2) from 1984-1986, he managed the wheat futures desk at the Chicago Board of Trade. (3) from 1986-1989, Mr. Kim managed the Export Trading Desk, selling Panamax sized cargos of corn, soybeans and sorghum to the Far East.
In 1989, Mr. Kim left Cargill to move into the futures pits of the Chicago Board of Trade, where he was a proprietary floor trader for 12 years. By 1996, Mr. Kim grew to be one of the largest traders on the Chicago Board of Trade floor.
In 2001, Mr. Kim and his partner David Fox founded LaSalle Asset Management, a hedge fund specializing in the grain markets (AUM 240M USD as of Jan 1 2012) In 2005 Mr. Kim founded Aventis Asset Management, LLC (formerly known as Misfit Financial Group, LLC*). Also a hedge fund, Aventis focuses trading on all physical commodities (Energies, Grains, Softs, Meats, and Metals) with a strategy that combines fundamental and technical approaches to the markets (AUM 163M USD as of Jan 1 2012). Mr. Kim actively manages over $400M between LaSalle Asset Management and Aventis Asset Management.
Mr. Kim is truly integrated within the trading community as a member of numerous industry organizations including the World Economic Forum, G100, the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation and the Economic Club of Chicago. Mr. Kim has not only been a member of the Chicago Board of Trade, but also the Kansas City Board of Trade, and the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. He has been written up in various trade publications and is frequently invited to share his insight into the global commodities arena at various industry events.
Mr. Kim believes in giving back to his community by actively supporting civic and cultural institutions and also is a backer of educational causes that drive community improvement. He serves on several Boards, including as a Trustee of Sage High School in Irvine, CA; Board member for Xealot, a global leadership development organization that focuses on emerging leaders in under resourced areas of the world; and is the founder of the Kim Family Foundation, a non-profit organization focused on delivering humanitarian aid to developing nations.
He currently resides in Newport Beach, California with his family.
